***Update: March 10th, 2015***

The federal government has opened a special health insurance open enrollment period for tax season. The special period will begin on March 15, 2015 and will remain open until April 30, 2015. Some consumers were unaware of or did not understand the tax implications of not enrolling in coverage. Those who have not already purchased coverage have paid or will have to pay a fee when they file their 2015 taxes. If they meet the requirements of the program (found at the link below) and enroll during this special period the fee can be reduced on a pro-rated basis for the number of months they were covered by insurance during 2015.

Open enrollment for 2015 health insurance coverage through the Federal Marketplace begins Saturday, November 15th! Health insurance options and pricing may have changed since last year, so even those who are currently enrolled should be sure to look at the Marketplace to see if there’s a cheaper option or coverage that better suits your needs!

If you have not previously enrolled in health coverage, now is the time! You must sign up by February 15th, 2015!! You can apply several different ways: head over to Healthcare.gov to sign up online  or call 1-800-318-2596 (open 24/7). For local, in person assistance enter your zip code at SignUpSC to find Navigators in your area.

Who is eligible to purchase health coverage in the Marketplace?

  • Individuals and families who do not already have access to an affordable health insurance plan through their workplace (or other coverage such as Medicare)
  • Individuals with pre-existing conditions- remember you will not be denied affordable health insurance!
